Coasting

Growing up, we all probably had something with wheels that we rode around the neighborhood, likely either a bike, a scooter, or a skateboard. It took effort to make it move, and most of the time we were the ones providing the power to get from point A to point B, pushing or pedaling our way around town.

Sometimes we got lucky, and the place where we were heading was at the bottom of a hill. Without having to push or pedal too much, we were able to coast along to get to where we were going.

But good fortune doesn’t last, and we knew that we couldn’t keep coasting downhill forever. Sooner or later, it was going to take some effort to get back up the hill, and that’s where the hard work came in. You can’t coast forever without doing at least some of the hard work.

How long has it been since we’ve done some hard work in our business, or are we still coasting, getting by on the hard work that we’ve done in the past?
