A Bird in the Hand

The importance of managing our day to day lives cannot be underestimated. If we fail to handle our daily tasks, like eating, drinking, and caring for our bodies, it’s quite likely that we’ll flounder and perish.

But that doesn’t mean we should focus solely on the here and now, ignoring our long term aspirations. Yes, today is important, but without something to look forward to, something to work towards, our repetitive daily routine quickly becomes a monotonous grind.

The ability to have foresight in our business dealings is equally important. Focusing exclusively on today’s dollar, to the detriment of tomorrow’s profits, is a recipe for disaster.

We’ve all heard the old axiom that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, but if we set fire to the forest to catch that one bird, the rest of the flock will soon go somewhere else. We’ll be left standing alone, with nothing but our bird in our hand…
