As home inspectors, it’s important for us to remember that we are going to have an asymmetrical relationship with our customers. We meet new client and sees new houses every single day.
The inspection that we do tomorrow morning is simply going to blend into the background with the other hundreds/thousands of inspections that we’ve already done. That client will also become part of our long work history, and meld into the long spate of personalities that we’ve encountered over our years.
Conversely, for our clients, tomorrow morning is likely to be a unique and memorable experience; one that they’ll replay over in their mind for a long, long time.
It’s important for us to remember that what seems to be just another day, a never ending home inspection that keeps going on in perpetuity, is likely to be an unprecedented event for our client.
Since they’ll be playing back this interaction for as long as they own their house, why not put in the time and effort to give them something worth remembering?
